Studio EM is a design practice for architecture, interiors, and objects based in Kuala Lumpur. Our work is not defined by programme but by a shared sensibility: quiet, considered, and precise in its execution.
We are first and foremost designers, and we prefer to keep it that way. We work closely with trusted, experienced contractors to deliver the work to a high standard.
This coordination starts from the very beginning, and we are present through every stage, leading early conversations and coordination, and obsessing over every final detail (we can’t help it). On-site, we remain client-side consultants to safeguard the design intent against the necessary chaos of construction.
Director’s profile
Ele Mun is a certified architect in the United Kingdom (ARB). Trained under Pritzker Prize-winning practice David Chipperfield Architects (DCA) in London, he established Studio EM upon returning home to Kuala Lumpur.
At DCA, he contributed to internationally acclaimed projects including the Royal Academy of Arts masterplan, the LSE Firoz Lalji Global Hub, the Dunard Centre in Edinburgh, Hertogensite in Leuven, and the new Rolex headquarters in New York. Earlier, he also gained experience at Tetawowe Atelier, contributing to projects in Malaysia.
He studied at the Architectural Association (AA), where his final thesis was nominated for the AA’s highest accolade. His work has been exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) and the Design Museum in London.
